The Minnesota Wild recalled some depth ahead of tonight’s contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Minnesota announced they’ve recalled forward Hunter Haight and defenseman Carson Lambos from the AHL’s Iowa Wild. In a corresponding roster move, the Wild have placed captain Jared Spurgeon on the injured reserve.
Unfortunately, neither Haight nor Lambos are expected to play this evening. Minnesota will use the same lineup that earned them a win against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Although that is bad news for Haight and Lambos, it’s good news for the Wild. Star winger Kirill Kaprizov left Thursday’s contest with an undisclosed injury. Still, since he’ll return to the lineup this evening, there’s no cause for concern.
It’s a positive that Kaprizov will remain in the lineup; the Wild are still facing several injuries. Spurgeon is the latest player to land on the injured reserve. He’s recovering from an upper-body injury, and there’s currently no concrete timeline for his return. Minnesota now has six players on long-term or regular injured reserve heading into tonight’s contest. The Wild will also be without defenseman Olli Määttä, who is also recovering from an upper-body injury.
Although Haight and Lambos are not expected to join the lineup, there is a strong possibility that they remain on the roster for the foreseeable future unless Minnesota activates a few players. After hosting the Blue Jackets tonight, the Wild will embark on a five-game road trip through the Pacific Division, and won’t return to Grand Casino Arena until October 29th.
