It’s a little bit of a pay cut for Johansson, who came to the end of a two-year contract with the Wild that saw him have an AAV of $2 million.
Johansson has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Wild since being dealt to Minnesota from the Washington Capitals in February 2023. He’s been a solid secondary scorer for a team that has big names like Kirill Kaprizov and Marco Rossi.
During the 2024-25 campaign, the 34-year-old scored 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 72 games, up from the 30-point performance he had during the 2023-24 season. He also posted two assists in five games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which saw the Wild eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights.
In 170 games with Minnesota, Johansson has scored 28 goals and 54 assists for 72 points, with four points in 11 postseason games with the club.
In 983 career NHL appearances, the Landskrona, Sweden native has scored 185 goals and 332 assists for 517 points, including 47 points in 114 postseason games.
Along with his two stops with the Wild and Capitals, Johansson has also played for the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Seattle Kraken. He’s represented his country on multiple occasions as well. Johansson has helped Sweden win the bronze medal at each of the past two IIHF Men’s World Championships, along with taking home the silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
According to CapWages, the Wild have around $22.5 million in cap space for next season.
