Johansson will become the 412th player in league history to reach the mark, and the fourth player this season to do so. Edmonton Oilers forward Adam Henrique, Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin, and Flames forward Nazem Kadri have also hit the millennium mark during the 2025-26 campaign.
Johansson’s career began in 2010 with the Washington Capitals, the team that took the Landskrona, Sweden native 24th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft. He would play seven years in the U.S. capital before being traded to the New Jersey Devils in July 2017. After a couple of years in the Garden State, he was traded again before the trade deadline in February 2019, as he was moved to the Boston Bruins.
The following summer, Johansson signed with the Buffalo Sabres before being dealt to the Wild in September 2020. After signing with the Seattle Kraken prior to the franchise’s inaugural season, he was traded back to the Caps in March 2022. Johansson was traded back to Minnesota in February 2023 and has been with the team ever since.
Across 15-plus seasons, Johansson has scored 191 goals and 340 assists for 531 points, with another 47 points coming in 114 Stanley Cup Playoff contests. He has also represented his country on the international stage, playing for Sweden at the 2014 Winter Olympics, as well as the 2024 and 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championships, taking home the bronze medal each time.
On top of playing his 1,000th game on Sunday, Johansson will look to continue his career-long eight-game point streak, in which he has scored five goals and five assists for 10 points.
