Whether it’s on the big screen or at the hockey rink, Will Ferrell knows how to entertain the masses.

During Thursday’s game between the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning in L.A., Ferrell dressed up as a referee while in his season tickets seats behind the bench. As he’s gotten the attention on the Jumbotron, he’s added more to the bit by making the signals for each penalty throughout the game.

Ferrell was later interviewed by FanDuel Sports Network West, the Kings’ broadcast channel, and he joked about how he trained two of the referees on the ice, Brandon Schrader and Francis Charron.

“I’ve always been in support of the NHL referees,” Ferrell said. “In fact, I trained two of the guys out here. They are two of my prize students, Brandon and Francis. They’re calling a heck of a game.”

This isn’t the first time Ferrell has shown up to a Kings game dressed in some form of interesting attire. Last holiday season, Ferrell attended a game dressed up as Buddy the Elf from one of his more well-known movies Elf, as well as another where he came with checkered black-and-white face paint during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Ferrell is a well-known fan of the Kings, and considered by many to be the most famous fan of the team. While there are other well-known actors who are fans of the team like Snoop Dogg, Vince Vaughn and Danny DeVito, the 58-year-old is certainly their most vocal fan, and the most frequent to appear at games.

Ferrell has worked in comedy for more than 30 years, first gaining popularity for his contributions on Saturday Night Live. He has since become well-known for his roles in comedies like Anchorman, Stepbrothers, and Elf, as well as more serious roles like Stranger than Fiction. Ferrell is also a part-owner of Los Angeles FC, a soccer team in Major League Soccer.
