William Nylander is having a terrific start to his 2025-26 season. On Wednesday night, he became the fourth player to hit the 20-point mark this season. The Toronto Maple Leafs are on a 3-game winning streak, and Nylander is a big part of that. After another slow start in October, the Maple Leafs are undefeated (3-0-0) to start November.
Nylander reached the 20-point mark by registering a goal and an assist against the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday night. Those two points helped Nylander become the second-fastest Maple Leafs skater in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) to reach the 20-point mark in a season. It took Nylander 11 games to reach the 20-point mark. The Maple Leafs skater to do it the fastest was Doug Gilmour, who did it in ten games during the 1992-93 season.
Through the Maple Leafs’ first 11 games of the 2025-26 season, Nylander has at least one point in every game except for the October 13th game against the Detroit Red Wings. Nylander has registered seven multi-point games during his hot start. He is riding an eight-game point streak right now. The Maple Leafs’ next game is on Saturday against their divisional rivals, the Boston Bruins. William Nylander will look to continue his hot streak and help the Leafs stay perfect in November.

Part of the reason for Nylander’s hot start is the fact that he’s on the Leafs’ top line. He has claimed the spot once held by Mitch Marner. With Marner now with the Vegas Golden Knights, Nylander will benefit from playing top-line minutes. When your linemates are Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies, it shouldn’t be hard to find success.
All three players are off to good starts. Knies already has 18 points in 14 games. He didn’t have 18 points last season until December 15th (29 games). Maple Leafs captain, Auston Matthews, is the one off to a slow start (12 in 14 games). However, he’s beginning to heat up. He has three goals in his last three games. An important thing to point out about Matthews is that his shot looks great. Whatever ailment (wrist or shoulder) that bothered him last season doesn’t seem to be an issue this season. The Captain is on pace for 47 goals.
William Nylander spent a lot of time on the Maple Leafs’ second line with John Tavares. The two played many games together as linemates. Nylander couldn’t be happier to see Tavares reach the 500-goal club. Tavares scored his 500th career goal in a 6-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 29th. He was honored by the Maple Leafs before Wednesday night’s game. His wife, children, and parents were there with him for the occasion. To make the night even more memorable, Tavares recorded goal 501 to break the 2-2 tie against the Mammoth.
With a day off on Thursday, the Leafs will practice on Friday, before hosting the Bruins on Saturday night. The Leafs look to improve their record to 9-5-1.
