The Winnipeg Jets are already badly shorthanded for Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues, and now another last-second scratch from the lineup has been announced.
The Winnipeg Jets have one last chance to advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs over the St. Louis Blues, and they can do it on home ice in front of a sold-out crowd at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg Sunday night.
However, they'll have to do so shorthanded. Not only is top forward Mark Scheifele unable to play but the Jets will also be without defenseman Logan Stanley; Haydn Fleury took warmups in his place and will be in the lineup.
Stanley is dealing with an undisclosed injury; he's played in the opening 5 games of the series. Doubt arose on his availability when he didn't participate in Game 6 and missed Sunday's morning skate in Winnipeg.
Stanley has racked up an astounding 42 penalty minutes in 5 games in the playoffs so far; he has no points.
Meanwhile, Scheifele hasn't been available since Game 5 after being leveled by Blues captain Brayden Schenn.
The Jets missed their chance to eliminate the Blues from the postseason on Friday in St. Louis; goaltender Connor Hellebuyck's woes continued, as he was yanked from the crease by coach Scott Arniel after he allowed five goals by the end of two periods.
If Winnipeg hopes to see Scheifele back on the ice in game action for them before the fall, they'll have to hope that not only Hellebuyck can shut the door on St. Louis like he did in the regular season, but that they can also overcome the massive hole in the lineup up front.
