The Winnipeg Jets organization is doing something so classy for Mark Scheifele and his family following their tough loss, as players will be flown to the funeral.

As Mark Scheifele exited the penalty box during overtime Saturday, a sea of hugs from his Winnipeg Jets teammates greeted him.

It was a show of solidarity with their prized center, who played only a day after his father, Brad Scheifele, passed away unexpectedly. A few hours down the road, the Jets' season ended in tragedy.

Despite Scheifele scoring the Jets only goal of the game, they lost

Dallas Stars defenseman Thomas Harley won it in overtime on the power play, while Scheifele was in the box, having been sent off for tripping with 15 seconds to go in regulation time.

As the Stars lined up to shake hands, Scheifele came across Connor Hellebuyck and planted his face into the goaltender's shoulder.

The Jets learned of the death of Brad Scheifele Saturday morning at American Airlines Center. Head coach Scott Arniel took the team back to the hotel to talk to Scheifele in person.

A couple of hours prior to game time, Arniel announced Scheifele would suit up for Game 6. He gave it everything he had on the ice.

Scheifele wanted to honor his father by helping the Jets advance to the conference final since 2018. He played with fire but watched the evening end in disappointment.

His team continues to rally around him. The Jets, NHL insider Murat Ates reports, are sending several players and staff on a flight to Kitchener later this week to be present at Brad Scheifele's funeral.

This is a step that speaks volumes about the cohesion in that locker room, one that will likely grow even greater over the course of the summer.
