The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with star defenseman Dylan Samberg, which will pay him $5.75 million per year.

Good news out of Manitoba this morning: Dylan Samberg and the Winnipeg Jets have avoided arbitration.

The defenceman has agreed to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $17.25 million, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, as well as Jets insider Murat Ates, reported Wednesday.

The two sides were scheduled to go to arbitration on Wednesday, and Elliotte Friedman reported on Monday that Dylan Samberg set his value in arbitration at $6 million while the Jets came in at $2.5 million. This new contract clearly favors Samberg.

Trying to agree to contracts under the pressure of a looming arbitration hearing isn't always a perfect art, but the end result here isn't too far off from what previous comparables had projected.

AFP Analytics initially projected a five-year, $5.2MM AAV agreement for Samberg at the beginning of the offseason, just a few weeks ago.

Samberg is Coming Off a Career Season

He enjoyed a breakout campaign last season with the Jets, scoring a career-high six goals and 20 points while logging a little over 21 minutes of ice time per night, nearly six minutes more than his previous best season.

The 26-year-old blue-liner added another three assists during the 2024-25 playoffs, while his ice time was over 24 minutes a night.

The six-foot-four, 216-pound Samberg was selected in the second round, 43rd overall, back in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Jets.

As of now, Toronto Maple Leafs winger Nicholas Robertson has the only open arbitration case, and his hearing is scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd.
