Winnipeg Jets Sign Top Defenseman To Long-Term Deal, Per Insider

It is a big signing for a Jets organization that is rich in blue-chip talent.

Wednesday night, the Jets finished their most successful regular season in team history in style, beating the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in overtime.

Mark Scheifele, Winnipeg's inaugural modern-era draft pick, potted the winner at Canada Life Centre, adding a flourish to an unforgettable 82-game ride.

That win finished the season at 56-22-4, with a franchise-best 116 points and a record-high total eclipsing the old mark of 114 in 2017-18. Regular-season success was no time for rest, though, as Winnipeg's focus soon shifted to the playoffs.

Having already taken the Central Division crown, led the Western Conference, and claimed the Presidents' Trophy over the weekend, the Jets just continued piling up the accolades.

Connor Hellebuyck and the Jets won the William Jennings Trophy

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, one of the top contenders for his third Vezina Trophy and a leading Hart Trophy candidate, saved 30 out of 31 shots to lead the team to winning the William Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed in the NHL.

It is the second straight year that Hellebuyck received that award. Head coach Scott Arniel credited the success of his team to the club's defense-oriented emphasis.

'Every group came back (and said) part of our identity, first and foremost, was going to be how we defended like we did last year,' said Arniel.

The playoffs begin on Saturday night as Winnipeg hosts its first-round opening series game against the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop is at 5 p.m. CT at Canada Life Centre, and the rest of the schedule has just been revealed which can be seen below.
