James was second only to Kevin Durant in scoring during the Americans 110-84 triumph, posting 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting. The 39-year-old won a bronze medal during his Olympics debut in 2004 in Athens and earned golds in 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London).
If the Americans were to place in the top three in Paris, he and Durant would tie Carmelo Anthony for the most total medals in Team USA men's basketball history (four).
Before the Summer Games began, James became the first men's basketball player in Team USA Olympics history to serve as flag bearer for the opening ceremony. Nearly 600 members of Team USA voted for James to hold this historic honor.
The Americans will next play South Sudan at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
