Megan Rapinoe after USWNT loss to Sweden in Olympic Games opener: 'No time to dwell'

The United States women's national team was stunned in its Tokyo Olympics opener Wednesday with a 3-0 loss to Sweden. 

The USWNT saw a 44-match unbeaten streak come to an end thanks to two goals from forward Stina Blackstenius and one from forward Lina Hurtig.

After the loss, USWNT veteran Megan Rapinoe said the team must move on quickly if it wants to advance past the group stage.

"There's no time to dwell and think about if Sweden is living in our heads or not. We've got another game in three days," Rapinoe said, according to ESPN. "Did we expect this result tonight? No.

"It's frustrating, and it's frustrating that it's Sweden. They found a lot of space on us. I don't even know how many goals we have given up this whole year. I don't remember the last time we gave up a goal. So to give up three is not great."

Wednesday's loss to Sweden was the American's first since a defeat to France in 2019 leading up to the World Cup.

The Swedes, ranked No. 5 in the world, have become the U.S.'s nemesis in recent years. Sweden bounced the top-ranked Americans from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games in the quarterfinals and recently played the U.S. to a 1-1 draw in April. 

Sweden leads Group G heading into Saturday's round of matches, while Australia is in second place. The U.S. women will face New Zealand this weekend in their second game of the group stage before facing Australia on Tuesday. 

The Americans, with four gold medals, are trying to become the first team in history to win Olympic gold following a World Cup title, which they won in 2019.
