NBC will remain the broadcasting home of the Olympics for at least another decade.

On Thursday, Comcast NBCUniversal and the International Olympic Committee announced a $3 billion deal to extend its partnership through 2036. The new contract, which goes into effect immediately, adds four more years to their preexisting $7.75 billion media rights agreement.

Along with broadcasting Olympic events on NBC affiliates, including Peacock, the deal provides additional technology infrastructure from Comcast and investment in IOC start-ups.

“This agreement with Comcast is groundbreaking because it goes far beyond the traditional media rights agreement which we have had for many years with our valued partner," IOC President Thomas Bach said. "Thanks to their innovative approach, serving on all platforms from linear to streaming and digital, we can now take our partnership to new heights for the benefit of athletes, Olympic stakeholders, Organising Committees and fans.

"The media landscape is evolving rapidly and, by partnering with one of the world's leading media and technology companies, we will ensure that fans in the United States are able to experience the Olympic Games like never before."

NBC has broadcasted the Summer Olympics since 1988 and added the Winter Games in 2022. Last summer's Paris Games coverage featured added streaming content on Peacock, including a Gold Zone wrap-around show hosted by Scott Hanson.

This extension ensures that NBC will broadcast the 2034 Winter Olympics from Salt Lake City and the 2036 Summer Olympics. Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Games after the 2026 Winter Games take place in Italy.

"There is no event like the Olympics. Its power to bring joy, and the unifying spirit it embodies, are truly unique," Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts said. "We live in a time when technology is driving faster and more fundamental transformation than we’ve seen in decades. This groundbreaking, new, long-term partnership between Comcast NBCUniversal and the International Olympic Committee not only recognises this dynamic but anticipates that it will accelerate."
