Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale redeemed themselves after disappointing finishes in their individual events by capturing the gold medal in the mixed team snowboard cross at Sunday’s Winter Olympics.

The British pair dazzled in Livigno before making a dramatic run in the final to claim first place. Italy’s Michela Moioli and Lorenzo Sommariva finished second, while France’s Lea Casta and Loan Bozzolo finished third.

Nightingale spoke about the chemistry he shares with his veteran teammate after the race.

"It's immense. I think we push each other well and for me, I know that Charlotte Bankes is behind me and she's such an incredible rider that it kind of loosens me up," he said.

"When I'm loose, I can ride really well and I think we've shown that today. "

Bankes’ personal journey in Milan Cortina was not ideal. The former world champion exited the women’s event in the quarter-finals. Nightingale had a similar experience in the men’s event, managing only a round-of-16 finish.

Great Britain is still celebrating, as the duo made history in the mixed event. The Olympics confirmed that they are the first GB representatives to win Olympic snowboard gold in the mixed team snowboard cross.

Nightingale celebrated the win and the leap Team Great Britain is making. He also spoke about his dream of putting the British ski team at the top.

"Just give it a go," he said. "There's nothing wrong with trying. We both want young kids coming into the sport and I think it's great that the UK is doing so well on the snowboard and ski side. I think we just all want for Team GB to become one of the top nations in the Winter Olympics."
