U.S. men's ice hockey team eliminated in Olympics quarterfinals following shootout loss to Slovakia

The United States men's ice hockey team is out at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, after a stunning shootout loss to Slovakia in the quarterfinals.

The Americans led 2-1 late in the third period, before their opponents knotted the score to force overtime. Team Slovakia scored the only goal of the shootout, as team USA finished the round 0-for-5.

Per ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, this is the third consecutive Olympics where the U.S. has not medaled. The Americans last took home a medal during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, when they famously lost in the title game to Canada, as Sidney Crosby put in the game-winner in overtime.

Team USA hasn't won gold at the Olympics since the "Miracle on Ice" in 1980. The Americans had been undefeated this winter at 3-0 entering their match against Slovakia.
