U.S. women's hockey improves to 3-0 at Olympics with another blowout win

The United States women's hockey team kept its undefeated record at the 2022 Winter Olympics intact with yet another blowout victory, dispatching Switzerland, 8-0, on Sunday.

Veteran forward Hilary Knight scored two of the first three goals for the United States, while Kelly Pannek and Jesse Compher each scored two goals as well. The United States scored five goals in the first period, two in the second and one in third.

Through three wins against Finland, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and Switzerland, the United States has scored 18 goals and allowed just two.

But looming large is an upcoming match with Canada. The Canadians opened play against Switzerland and won, 12-1, before beating Finland, 11-1. After playing ROC on Monday, Canada will meet the other titan of Group A on Tuesday.

The stakes in the clash are relatively low, as it will only affect seeding in the upcoming playoff round. However, it'll be a telling test for the two top teams of the competition, who are favored to meet in the goal-medal final.

Canada and the United States have finished with the top two spots on the Olympic podium in five of the first six women's hockey tournaments since the sport was added for the 1998 Winter Games.
