Bryan Fonseca's Australia vs. Belgium Women's Olympics Basketball Pick: Australia -0.5 1Q
Australia got whooped by Team USA early Thursday, so because of that, they didn't need to play anyone over 25 minutes. The game wasn't really too competitive after the first quarter.
Belgium played five players more than that, all 30 plus, including three between 38-41 minutes.
Australia has the formula to get off to a good start. They were rounding into form after a poor start to the Olympics before running into Team USA, and their 36/24 shooting splits from the field and from three aren't who they generally are. Even with that, they've shot about 45 and 34 percent from the field and three this tournament.
Comparatively, Belgium shoots 47 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from three.
Australia is 3-2 in first quarters, the losses to Team USA and Nigeria.

Joe Dellera's United States vs. France Women's Olympics Basketball Pick: USA Women -7.5 1H (-130)
By Joe Dellera
The Women’s National Team has cruised through the Olympics and looks poised to once again bring home the gold.
One change that was made was the removal of Diana Taurasi from the starting lineup. While she’s arguably the GOAT, she was not the optimal choice for this team’s starting lineup. As a result, we are seeing stronger starts to these games by Team USA.
The Americans have led by at least eight after every first half through the Olympics and now get a France team who just narrowly escaped Belgium in overtime. While they may have the crowd behind them this is a spot where Team USA should be able to start off strong and get up a lead to put the game out of reach early. I prefer the 1H as opposed to the full game simply because we have seen the bench empty when the games are secured which opens the backdoor cover.
I’ll back Team USA to start off strong and cover the 1H number.
I'm with Joe on this.
Team USA played Australia early Thursday and essentially coasted to victory. France, who played two hours later, were dragged into overtime by Belgium before winning 81-75 well until the night (France time).
Napheesa Collier was the leader in minutes and played 24. Breanna Stewart and A'ja Wilson hovered around 22 and 20, respectively. France had six players log over 24 minutes, and although it didn't include Marine Johannes who ended the game with 18 minutes, it's probably because she shot 1-for-10 from the field.
There's a pathway to Team USA coming off a hot start given the circumstances, and they've led by at least eight points in every first half so far.
