The MLB wild-card round got underway on Tuesday, and three of our four series bets are off to great starts. With a four-pack of Game 2s on Wednesday's schedule, let's switch things up with three juicy home run bets to sweat out during the MLB postseason slate.
Hunting for homers on hump day
Kansas City Royals @ Baltimore Orioles
Bobby Witt Jr. (+600 FD)
We're interested in fading Orioles starter Zach Eflin because the right-hander has given up five home runs in his last four starts. Witt has been in a bit of a power slump over the last month, but he's 3-6 in his career against Eflin with a double and a triple.
New York Mets @ Milwaukee Brewers
William Contreras (+430 FanDuel)
This is a solid matchup for Contreras, who's batting .313 with a .892 OPS against left-handed pitching this season. He's also batting .338 with a .524 xSLG and a 55.9 percent hard-hit rate against sinkers, the pitch Sean Manaea throws 44.7 percent of the time.
Atlanta Braves @ San Diego Padres
Michael Harris II (+700 DraftKings)
This is a surprisingly high price considering how well Harris is swinging the bat. Harris leads the Braves in batting average (.396), slugging percentage (.708) and home runs (four) over the last 15 days, and he has an impressive 51.4 percent hard-hit rate against righties over the last two weeks. Joe Musgrove can be dominant, but he ranks in the seventh percentile in barrel rate (10.5 percent) this season.
In the news ...
Road underdogs crash the party on first day of MLB playoffs — Anything can happen in October, and we got a taste of that on Tuesday when three of the four road underdogs took their respective Game 1s. The Tigers knocked off the Astros, 3-1, behind Tarik Skubal's dominant performance, the Royals squeaked by the Orioles, 1-0 and the Mets continued their run with an 8-4 victory against the Brewers. The Padres were the only favorites which took care of business with a 4-0 win against the Braves. San Diego (+750) has the best odds of any wild-card team to win the World Series.
Davante Adams requests trade — After sitting out Week 4 with a hamstring injury, Adams informed the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday that he prefers to be traded. This comes after Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce criticized his players for making "business decisions" and liking an Instagram post asking if Adams had played his final snap in Las Vegas. The Raiders are +300 to make the playoffs.
Von Miller suspended four games — Miller's resurgent season is being put on hold for now. On Tuesday, the NFL suspended Miller four games without pay for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The suspension appears to stem from allegations that Miller assaulted his pregnant girlfriend in 2023, but the NFL hasn't confirmed or denied that to be the case. Miller has already recorded 3.0 sacks for the Buffalo Bills through four games. The Bills are still -250 to win the AFC East.
