The PWHL announced Friday that Minnesota Frost forward Britta Curl has been suspended one game for an illegal check to the head against Toronto Sceptres’ defender Renata Frost during Game 1 of their first-round series last Wednesday.
The PWHL today announced that, after an automatic review by the PWHL Player Safety Committee, Minnesota Frost forward Britta Curl-Salemme has been assessed a one-game suspension for an illegal check to the head in Game 1 of the PWHL Playoffs against Toronto.

“The Player Safety Committee determined that Curl-Salemme, at 14:37 of the second period in Wednesday’s game, delivered a high and forceful check on opponent Renata Fast, making the head the main point of contact on a play where such contact to the head was avoidable,” the league wrote in a statement. “The play resulted in a major penalty and a game misconduct in violation of PWHL Rule 48 – Illegal Check to the Head.”
This is Curl’s third one-game suspension of the season. She was punished for a Jan. 2 high-sticking incident against the Boston Fleet, and another illegal check to the head against the Sceptres on March 9.
In Game 1, Julia Gosling scored two goals in 1:55 and Kristen Campbell made 19 saves as the Sceptres defeated the Frost 3-2 Wednesday night to take a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2 is Friday at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
In the other PWHL Walter Cup Playoff series, a couple of timely goals and some strong work on the defensive end, the Ottawa Charge came away with a 3-2 win over the top-seeded Montreal Victoire in Game 1 of their PWHL Semifinal series.

New Jimmy Butler report raises red flags
The Jonathan Kuminga situation has been a nightmare for the Golden State Warriors. The contract stalemate has essentially prevented them from making moves this offseason as they look to capitalize on the remaining years of Stephen Curry's career. Now, they might have an even bigger problem on their hands. According to Warriors insider Dalton Johnson, Jimmy Butler is worried about the team's direction. He reportedly reached out to the front office to get a better understanding of the situation. “In that ESPN article, they mentioned that Draymond and Jimmy have checked in and reached out to Jonathan Kuminga. I can confidently say that Jimmy Butler has also reached out to the team and been like, ‘What’s going on here? I just wanted to know the plan,'” Johnson said on the Dubs Talk podcast. “And of course, Steph, Draymond, Jimmy—they’re in the loop, I understand that.” Of course, that shouldn't raise concerns, and it's standard procedure around the league with star players. Nevertheless, Butler has a long history of power struggles with front offices, and he's not the type of player the Warriors would want going rogue on them. Butler seemed to be 100 percent bought in on the Warriors after his trade saga with the Miami Heat, but we've seen how quickly things can change. He's a hot-tempered individual who has often rubbed his teams the wrong way, and he's going to make sure to let everybody know when he's uncomfortable. The Warriors don't need that type of distraction now, and finding a solution to the Kuminga saga is an imperative, even if that means taking a lesser offer just to get rid of him and move on.

Derrick Harmon injury update: Steelers reveal DT’s status on Thursday practice report
The Pittsburgh Steelers released their practice report for Thursday, and defensive tackle Derrick Harmon seems to be getting closer to making his NFL debut. It was revealed that Harmon, who has a knee injury, was limited in practice on Thursday. This was the second straight day Harmon was a limited participant in practice. Derrick Harmon has yet to play this season, missing the first two games after suffering a knee injury against the Carolina Panthers in the preseason finale. While speaking to reporters, Harmon said he’s ready to make an impact on the Steelers’ defense. “I’m ready to go,” Harmon said, per the Steelers’ official website. “If my number’s called, I’m ready to go.” The injury could be a blessing in disguise for Harmon. The former Oregon defensive lineman has had the opportunity to learn more about the NFL and what to expect when he gets on the field for the first time. “Really just different schemes, how offenses attack the defense,” Harmon stated. “Things we work on, parts of the unit. And how we can compete at a higher level. Derrick Harmon is ‘staying on top of my game’ “I’ve been in every meeting, every walkthrough, every practice, even though I’m not out there participating. But just learning the schemes and learning the type of defense. We’re putting in new defenses. It’s staying the course and staying on top of my game.” Of the players listed on the practice report, Harmon was the only one who was a limited participant. Four Steelers did not practice on Thursday due to injuries, and those players were cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring), safety DeShon Elliott (knee), linebacker Alex Highsmith (ankle), and offensive lineman Max Scharping (knee). Wide receiver DK Metcalf also didn’t practice, but it was a veteran resting day for him. Linebacker Patrick Queen (resting vet), cornerback Darius Slay (resting vet), and linebacker TJ Watt (resting vet) were full participants at practice. All three should be ready to go on Sunday when the Steelers take on the New England Patriots. The Steelers are coming off a 31-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. They kicked off the season with a 34-32 victory over the New York Jets.
Brian Schottenheimer deserves credit for Cowboys’ strength that will win Dallas many team games
So far, so good for Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. He seems be in control of the locker room. The offense is innovative. But he’s also thriving in important areas of the game. The Cowboys rank first in the NFL in third down conversion percentage, for example. Game management has mostly been good for a first-year head coach. But one area that’s really stood out as a strength is the team’s red zone efficiency. There are a couple of keys to that. Let’s break it down. Cowboys’ run game has been productive inside the 20 Disclaimer: This is a limited data point since we’re only two weeks into the regular season and the sample size is small. But Cowboys RB Javonte Williams ranks first in the NFL in EPA/attempt in red zone carries. The film backs up the data. The Cowboys’ new RB1 has shown a little bit of everything: Physicality, acceleration, and vision. But mostly, it’s been Williams’ patience to allow blocks to develop that’s paid off. In goal-line situations, the Cowboys have run power runs and other concepts using pulling linemen along with pre-snap motion. If Schottenheimer keeps finding ways to run the ball efficiently in the end zone, Dak Prescott’s job will become much easier as defenses worry about fitting the run. Red zone passing has also been on point On Sunday’s win over the New York Giants, Prescott has two touchdowns, both of which came inside the 20. One was to KaVontae Turpin over the middle of the field while the other one was a one-on-one shot to George Pickens from the six-yard line. The latter could be a key to continues success in the red zone. With the threat of a good run game and an elite WR like CeeDee Lamb, Pickens is likely to get a lot of favorable matchups. As long as he keeps winning those one-on-ones, Prescott will have a go-to target in scoring situations. Defenses could double Pickens and leave Lamb alone but that’s not a winning bet either. And if defenses double him and Lamb, good luck stopping the run. Red zone success is crucial The Cowboys are a flawed roster. The defense is missing a premium pass rusher since the Micah Parsons trade, cornerback is a a banged-up position, and Matt Eberflus has yet to adjust. Meanwhile, the pass protection on offense is troublesome. This is to say, winning on the margins will be huge for this Cowboys team. Red zone success is one of the top ways to win the details. Dodgers have intriguing plan for Shohei Ohtani — and it just might work
Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani has continued to impress on the mound as he builds his pitch count. Ohtani fired 68 pitches on Tuesday over five scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing just one walk. His outing was the fifth consecutive appearance where he threw over 65 pitches and just the second time that he was able to complete five innings. He has posted a 3.29 ERA and a 1.073 WHIP over 41 innings this season, striking out 54 batters with nine walks. Although the Dodgers have been able to manage Ohtani's workload as he is making his way back from his second elbow surgery, that would be more difficult in the postseason. However, the Dodgers and Ohtani may have a plan. As Michael Duarte from NBC L.A. relays, the Dodgers and Ohtani have discussed having the two-way star play in the outfield so he can be used as a reliever in the playoffs. Los Angeles Dodgers' novel plan for Shohei Ohtani could work There are question marks with such a plan. Ohtani has not played in the outfield since 2021, when he had seven appearances spanning 8.1 innings without a fielding opportunity. However, Ohtani did have 64 appearances in the outfield during his time with the Nippon Ham Fighters, but 56 of those came in his rookie season in 2013. While Ohtani is allowed to continue as the designated hitter if he is used as a starting pitcher, that would not be the case as a reliever. He would either need to head to the outfield or be lost for the rest of the game, with the Dodgers forfeiting the DH spot in the lineup. The Dodgers have had problems in the back end of their bullpen. Relievers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates have struggled in their first season in Los Angeles. Ohtani could be a difference-maker regardless of his role in the bullpen, as he proved during the 2023 World Baseball Classic when he struck out former teammate Mike Trout to win the tournament.
