Sceptres sign Ella Shelton to one-year extension

The Sceptres acquired Shelton in a trade with the New York Sirens at the 2025 PWHL Draft in June, sending their 2025 first-round pick (third overall) and their fourth-round pick (27th overall).

In the team release announcing the deal, Shelton said she was thrilled about the extension.

“I think it’s been a really great fit since day one of being here,” Shelton said.”Everyone’s been super excited, the staff has expressed how happy they are to have me in this market, and the players are too – it feels really homey and it feels really good. It makes me want to go out and win a Walter Cup with this group – more than once.”

Shelton finished the 2024-25 campaign with eight goals and eight assists for 16 points, finishing fourth in the league scoring among defenders. In 48 career games, Shelton is the PWHL’s all-time points leader among blueliners, with 37 points through 15 goals and 22 assists.

Shelton spent four seasons playing college hockey at Clarkson University, where she scored 26 goals and 82 assists for 108 points in 153 career games. In her senior season, she recorded nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points in 33 contests.

The Sceptres finished the 2024-25 season with a 12-3-6-9 record and 48 points, finishing second in the league in the regular season. They were eliminated by the Minnesota Frost in the first round of the Walter Cup Playoffs.
