Peyton Manning reveals Bill Belichick's role on 'ManningCast' for this season

While he won't be sporting his infamous hoodie on the sidelines, Bill Belichick will still have his coaching hat on during the 2024 NFL regular season.

During an appearance on Friday's episode of "The Pat McAfee Show," five-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning revealed Belichick's role during ESPN's "Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli" simulcast (h/t Awful Announcing). Manning confirmed that Belichick is set to join the award-winning program during Netflix's Tom Brady roast but didn't clarify in what capacity.

Although the "ManningCast" features a rotating cast of guest stars during each "Monday Night Football" game, Belichick will be a permanent fixture on the program this season.

“Bill is going to be a permanent guest on every 'ManningCast' show early in the game, probably the first quarter, to kind of take people behind the ropes of what the defense has to do or what this quarterback’s challenges are,” Manning said. “I can’t tell you the advantage of having a defensive coach to take the quarterback behind the ropes … Bill’s gonna do that.”

Despite not receiving another NFL head-coaching job after parting ways with the New England Patriots in January, Belichick has kept busy with television appearances. We witnessed Belichick's comedic side during the Brady roast and "The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular" last month, but Manning is excited for viewers to see why the 72-year-old is arguably the greatest coach in NFL history.

"I think the audience is going to be fascinated by how smart he is," Manning continued. "He’s quick-witted, he’s funny, and like I said, he’s just brilliant when it comes to defense and offense. The guy can flat-out coach.”

Although Belichick would undoubtedly prefer to coach this season, teaming up with the Mannings could be the perfect opportunity for him to get back into the NFL as soon as possible. Potentially interested teams will surely tune in to get an in-depth look at the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach's mind and personality, so it won't be surprising if Belichick treats his new role as a job interview.

According to a February report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, many around the league expect Belichick to be back coaching in 2025, as he's already received interest from several team owners.

By playing his cards right, Belichick should be able to capitalize on his new role to land another head-coaching job and continue his quest to break Don Shula's all-time wins record, which he's 15 victories away from doing.
