In his newest mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates has the New Orleans Saints taking Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the eighth pick. And honestly, it is not hard to see why.
Quarterback Tyler Shough provides the Saints with plenty of hope going forward, as he finished his rookie season with a 4-1 record. Tyson would be a huge addition to Kellen Moore's offense, which still needs more playmaking alongside Chris Olave. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Tyson is electric with the ball in his hands. He totaled 29 catches, 444 yards and three touchdowns in the final three games he played in 2024 before being knocked out for the season with an injury. His 2025 season was limited by uneven QB play and injuries, but he can be schemed up for as many touches as possible in New Orleans.
The Saints need help on offense and have for quite some time. Last season felt like a chore at times. Too many slow starts and too many drives that went nowhere. You would watch a series and think, “OK, here we go,” and then it was three plays and a punt. There just was not that guy who scared opposing teams defenses.
Jordyn Tyson might be that guy.
Turn on his tape and it is pretty simple. He can get down the field. He can go up and get the ball and is not afraid of contact. He does not look overwhelmed in big moments. When the ball is in the air, he plays like the ball belongs only to him.
The Saints have plenty of solid pieces, but solid does not win you games in January. They need someone who can flip the field in one play. They need someone that a quarterback can just throw it up to when everything breaks down around them.
You do not draft eighth overall for a safe pick. You draft there to change something.
And that is where Tyson fits in.
The Saints have been searching for a consistent playmaker on offense for quite some time now. Bolstering their receiving corps by adding a young wide receiver from the top 10 would change how opposing defenses line up against them. If done right, it may even open up the run game for New Orleans and potentially make third downs a little less stressful.
Of course mock drafts are only educated guesses. Players rise and fall after workouts. But when someone like Field Yates links New Orleans to Jordyn Tyson this early, it usually means that it's more than just a rumor.
So, what if the Saints actually go this route?
It would tell you they are done playing it safe on offense and that they are looking for a big playmaker.
For a fan base that has been waiting to feel that spark again, that might be exactly what this team needs.
