Michael Jordan — yes, the same Michael Jordan of NBA fame — is now a Daytona 500 champion.
Tyler Reddick, a driver for the 23XI Racing team that Jordan co-owns with NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin, won Sunday's Daytona 500 in dramatic fashion. Needless to say, his car owner was jubilant.
"I can't even believe it," Jordan told Fox Sports. "It's so gratifying. We had four guys that [were] really fighting and helping each other out. You never know how these races are going to end, right? You just try to survive."
Jordan, a lifelong NASCAR fan, saw three of the four 23XI cars finish inside the top-10. That included eighth-place finisher Riley Herbst, who crashed on the final lap but was the driver who gave Reddick the push he needed to win the race.
Bubba Wallace won Stage 2, led 40 laps and finished 10th on Sunday, while Corey Heim finished 28th after a crash but ran up front in Stage 3.
Jordan has plenty of accolades in the basketball world, and can now call himself a Daytona 500-winning car owner. That's an achievement the Wilmington, N.C., native will cherish forever.
