The tragic decline of Antonio Brown continues. Once thought of as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and on a trajectory to be thought of as potentially one of the best wideouts ever, Brown's downward spiral has taken a dark turn.
ESPN reports that the 37-year-old was arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after a warrant was issued for his arrest in Miami-Dade County in Florida, in June. The warrant listed a charge of attempted murder with a firearm.
Brown was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Dubai, and he was flown to Essex County in New Jersey. He's now being held in New Jersey, but he will be extradited to Miami to face the charges against him.
"According to an arrest warrant detailing the May 16 shooting, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer after the boxing match and firing two shots at a man he had been in a fistfight with earlier. The man, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators one of the bullets grazed his neck," per the ESPN report.
Brown was detained by police at the time, but he was released hours later. While talking to streamer Adin Ross, Brown said that he did not remember the event.
"Yeah I got CTE, I blacked out," Brown said. "I blacked out, Adin. I don’t know what happened."
The incident was recorded on video, and two shots could be heard ringing out, and Brown did appear to have a firearm in his hand.
The charges against Brown, a second-degree attempted murder charge, carry a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and up to a fine of $10,000.
This is just his latest issue. He has previously faced allegations of battery, domestic violence, failure to pay child support and more.
A sixth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010, Brown totaled 928 catches, 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns in 12 NFL seasons. He made four straight first-team All-Pro teams from 2014 to 2017.
