North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis raves about freshman Caleb Wilson

The North Carolina Tar Heels have one heck of a player in freshman forward Caleb Wilson.

The Tar Heels are 16-4 so far this season and ranked No. 16 in the country. They've got a great program and some very talented players on the roster.

Wilson is undoubtedly the star, though.

So much so that North Carolina head coach Hubert Davis couldn't help but gush about the freshman in a recent media availability.

“I’m just so thankful that I’ve gotten an opportunity just to be able, obviously to coach him, but just to have a front row seat to see this kid just develop and get better,” Davis said. “Over the last couple of weeks, he’s become more vocal. Over the last couple of weeks, he has led us in his energy in practice and I’ve said this: As good as Caleb is, he has a lot more improvement to go."

Wilson, just 19, checks in at 6-foot-10, 215 pounds as a freshman out of Atlanta, Georgia.

He's averaging 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game this season. He leads UNC in points, rebounds, steals (1.6) and blocks (1.4) per game, and Davis believes he's only going to get better as the season goes on.

Hubert Davis believes Caleb Wilson will get better and better for North Carolina Tar Heels

“I don’t think anybody can see the ceiling, it’s that high for him," Davis said. "It’s just such a joy to coach him. As I’ve told you before, maybe other coaches have this, but no other coach, no other program has it better than this combination of having this good of a player, this good of a person and this good of a teammate. It really is a blessing to be able to coach him this year.”

Wilson was a consensus five-star recruit and a McDonald's All-American. He was Georgia's 2025 Mr. Basketball, and he committed to UNC over Kentucky and Ohio State.

That was a big-time recruiting win for the Tar Heels, and it has paid off already in his freshman season.
