Mike McCoy lands on his feet with Klint Kubiak and the Las Vegas Raiders

Klint Kubiak has brought an experienced coach to guide him through his first few seasons as an NFL head coach.

It was announced on Thursday that the Las Vegas Raiders, fresh off hiring Kubiak, 38, have hired Mike McCoy to be Kubiak's assistant head coach.

McCoy last served as the interim head coach for the Tennessee Titans after the team fired Brian Callahan mid-season. He went 2-9 in Tennessee as the interim head coach.

McCoy, 53, has a ton of experience in the coaching ranks and should be a massive asset for Kubiak in his first season. A former player himself — though he was an undrafted quarterback and bounced around the league for just a few seasons — McCoy has been coaching in the NFL since 2000.

Mike McCoy made the players with the Chargers

Notably, he was the head coach of the San Diego Chargers from 2013 to 2016. He went 27-37 during that stint, making the playoffs in just his first season.

Before he was promoted to the interim head coaching role in Tennessee, McCoy was a senior offensive assistant. Before that, he coached quarterbacks for two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He's also held offensive coordinator positions with the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals. Notably, Kubiak was one of his offensive assistants in Denver.

He's maybe not the guy you want calling the shots or the plays anymore, but McCoy will bring a wealth of experience (good and bad) for Kubiak to lean on as the assistant head coach.
