Fever's Caitlin Clark dazzles in preseason debut vs. Brazil

How can Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark top her spectacular rookie season? Making more shots from long distance certainly wouldn't hurt.

On Sunday, the Fever faced Brazil in a preseason game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. It's worth noting Clark starred for the Iowa Hawkeyes for four seasons. Apparently, the Iowa native wanted to showcase her range in front of the home crowd.

With Indiana leading Brazil 87-32 late in the third quarter, Clark nailed a 35-foot three-pointer. The bucket was close to the spot where she broke the women's NCAA Division I career scoring record in February 2024. Clark, of course, is college basketball's all-time leading scorer (men's or women's) after finishing with 3,951 points with the Hawkeyes.

The shot from beyond the arc was one of many eye-popping plays in a sterling preseason debut for Clark. In the 108-44 blowout, she scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, grabbed six rebounds and tallied five assists.

Last season, Clark won Rookie of the Year after leading the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season. This offseason, Indiana hired head coach Stephanie White, who won Coach of the Year in 2023. White should help the 23-year-old star raise her game.

As of Sunday, FanDuel Sportsbook lists Clark's MVP odds at +200, tied with Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson for the best in the league.

The Fever's regular season begins on May 17 against the Chicago Sky at home. If Clark drills more deep threes in that matchup, she'll likely generate more early MVP buzz.
