Diontae Johnson has played for five different teams over the past year-plus, and the latest contract that the veteran wide receiver signed should serve as a major wake-up call for him.
Johnson agreed to a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns last week. On Tuesday, ESPN's Field Yates reported that the contract is worth the veteran minimum of $1.17M for the 2025 season.
The Browns are not giving Johnson any guaranteed money, which means he can be cut at any time.

A zero-risk deal for Cleveland, while Johnson will work to reestablish his value at still just 28 years old.
Johnson looked like he had the potential to become an elite wide receiver early on in his career. He had a breakout third season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021, when he caught 107 passes for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. That led to the former third-round pick signing a two-year, $36.7M extension before the 2022 season, but he has been on a downward trend since.
The Steelers traded Johnson to the Carolina Panthers ahead of last season. He was then dealt to the Baltimore Ravens midway through the year.
Johnson's brief tenure in Baltimore was a disaster. He was suspended by the team for refusing to enter a game because he was unhappy with his role. Johnson was waived shortly after that and landed with the Houston Texans, where he also quickly wore out his welcome.
Had Johnson produced at an average level, he would still be making millions per year even as a No. 2 receiver. Instead, he has developed a reputation for being a malcontent and is playing for the league minimum at age 28.
Johnson should have an opportunity to make the final roster in Cleveland, but he needs to put in the work. If he does not, he may not get another shot with an NFL team.
