Mets place rookie LHP David Peterson on injured list with shoulder soreness

Pitching woes continue to haunt the New York Mets in August.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that rookie left-hander David Peterson was scratched from his start on Tuesday and placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 14 due to soreness in his throwing shoulder.

Peterson, 24, holds a 3-1 record with a 2.91 ERA in four appearances. He last took the bump Thursday against the Washington Nationals.

It's the latest blow to a rotation lacking proven commodities who can remain healthy. Marcus Stroman opted out of the season on Aug. 10. Righty Michael Wacha is completing a 10-day IL stint due to shoulder inflammation. New York pulled Jacob deGrom from Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies after the two-time reigning Cy Young Award winner complained of a stiff neck.

Noah Syndergaard underwent Tommy John surgery in late March.

Meanwhile, manager Luis Rojas could remove southpaw Steven Matz from the rotation later this week.

Matz has compiled a 14.66 ERA in August and has failed to get through the fifth inning in each of his last three outings.

Corey Oswalt, called up from New York's alternate training site, will start against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.
