Tennis legend Serena Williams avenged an August loss to Maria Sakkari at the Western & Southern Open by rallying from behind to defeat Sakkari and advance to the US Open quarterfinals on Monday.
Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Williams squandered an advantage during the second-set tiebreaker and then went down 2-0 in the deciding set. From there, though, Williams found her championship form and dropped Sakkari 6-3.
The American, who turns 39 years old on Sept. 26, will face Alize Cornet or Tsvetana Pironkova, both unseeded, in the next round.
Williams sits on 23 Grand Slam titles, one behind Margaret Court for the most in history. Earlier in the tournament, Williams passed Chris Evert for most US Open wins in a career.
