Oklahoma-West Virginia game postponed to Dec. 12 due to COVID-19

The West Virginia Mountaineers won't host the Oklahoma Sooners this Saturday.

Oklahoma, West Virginia and the Big 12 all confirmed on Wednesday that Saturday's game has been postponed to Dec. 12 because of COVID-19 issues impacting the Sooners ahead of Thanksgiving.

Oklahoma has temporarily paused organized team activities following the discovery of positive coronavirus test results and subsequent quarantines that left the Sooners unable to meet conference COVID-19 thresholds.

The Big 12 will unveil the contest's kickoff time and broadcast information at a later date.

"I am disappointed for both teams, who have worked extremely hard in their preparation for this weekend's game," West Virginia director of athletics Shane Lyons said in the prepared statement. "We will now look forward to honoring our seniors and hosting the Sooners on Dec 12."

The Sooners and Mountaineers had both gone from Sept. 12 through last Saturday without a single schedule disruption caused by the pandemic. Oklahoma is second in the Big 12 standings (5-2) and one game behind the 5-1 Iowa State Cyclones. West Virginia is 4-3 in league play.

Oklahoma hosts the Baylor Bears on Dec. 5, while West Virginia will play at Iowa State that same day.
