As had been expected, reports emerged on Thursday that the NBA and National Basketball Players Association are "finalizing details" on a plan to hold an All-Star Game in Atlanta on March 7 despite concerns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Not everybody is thrilled about the news.
"If I'm going to be brutally honest, I think it's stupid," Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox told reporters following Wednesday's 116-111 victory over the Boston Celtics. "If we have to wear masks and do all of this for a regular game, then what's the point of bringing the All-Star Game back?
"But obviously, money makes the world go round, so it is what it is. I'm not really worried about it. If I'm voted in, so be it."
As a follow-up, Fox was asked if he'd participate in the exhibition.
"You know you get fined — if you're supposed to be in it and you're not hurt and you decide not to play, that's a hefty fine," he responded while laughing. "So hell yeah, I would play in it."
Fox is averaging 22.3 points and 6.6 assists per game but, per Tim Bontemps of ESPN, was not listed among the top-10 Western Conference guards selected in the first round of fan voting.
One can't help but wonder if Fox may suffer a mysterious short-term injury on or around March 4, one day before the league's scheduled All-Star break.
