Report: Coyotes, Oliver Ekman-Larsson agree to survey trade market

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is available for trade again, and the Arizona Coyotes captain has a more open mind this time around.

Ekman-Larsson was involved in trade rumors last offseason and reportedly was only willing to accept a trade to either the Vancouver Canucks or Boston Bruins. However, it appears he'll be taking a different approach this time around.

"What Ekman-Larsson has told the Coyotes and what the Coyotes have agreed to do is, 'We're going to go out there, we're going to check the market, and we're going to bring a deal to you, and then you can decide whether you're comfortable with that team,'" Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on "Saturday Headlines."

The 29-year-old tallied three goals and 21 assists in 46 games in 2020-21 while averaging 20:58 of ice time per game. It was his worst season since the 2012-13 campaign. Still, Ekman-Larsson's trade value should be high as he's a left-shot defenseman.

According to CapFriendly, Ekman-Larsson has six seasons remaining on his contract carrying an annual cap hit of $8.25 million. It remains to be seen whether teams will be willing to take on his entire salary.
