Nets star Kevin Durant expected to commit to Team USA for Tokyo Olympics

The USA Basketball roster is starting to come together.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is expected to commit to Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

The news comes after Durant and the Nets were eliminated from the NBA playoffs with a 115-111 overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 7 Saturday night.

Durant had a phenomenal playoff run, putting the Nets on his back with injuries to Kyrie Irving and James Harden. The 32-year-old averaged 34.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 51.4% from the field and 40.2% from deep.

He had 48 points, nine rebounds and six assists in Game 7 against the Bucks, but it wasn't enough as the Nets failed to get much production out of anyone else. Harden had 22 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, but he was limited due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Durant is a two-time Olympian, winning gold medals with Team USA at the 2012 Games in London and the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. He also won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, where he was named MVP of the tournament.

The four-time scoring champion is the latest player to commit to play for Team USA at this summer's Olympics. Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal, Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker and Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green have also committed to play in Tokyo.

USA Basketball is aiming to fill its 12-man roster by the end of this month, and now it's halfway there with Durant's commitment. Some of America's biggest stars, such as LeBron James and Jimmy Butler, have already decided not to compete at the Olympics this summer.
