MLB umpires to begin checking pitchers for foreign substances on Monday?

Major League Baseball umpires will reportedly begin checking pitchers for foreign substances on Monday, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Pitchers will be inspected between innings and/or after they come out of the game. They could also be checked if they're demonstrating suspicious behavior, Rogers adds.

Umpires will check gloves, hats and belts of pitchers, but can look elsewhere if they suspect a player has a foreign substance located elsewhere. If a pitcher is found to be using a foreign substance, they'll be thrown out of the game and suspended for 10 days.

Pitchers have been very vocal about sharing frustration over MLB's new substance rules. Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow suffered a partially torn UCL and is blaming MLB for the injury because he had to adjust his grips.

Los Angeles Dodgers ace Trevor Bauer shared similar feelings, saying a change in foreign substance rules shouldn't have occurred midseason.

The use of sticky substances will continue to be a hot topic for the rest of the 2021 campaign and beyond.
