Free-agent DT P.J. Hall arrested on charges of assault, interference with public duties

Free-agent defensive tackle P.J. Hall may not be getting many nibbles on the open market in the early days of summer.

ESPN's Sarah Barshop reported Friday that Hall was recently arrested on charges of assault and interference with public duties:

Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Hall had a misdemeanor assault charge filed against him this past Sunday. The 26-year-old posted a $1,000 bond and next has a court appearance on July 16.

Hall spent the 2020 regular season with the Houston Texans and impressed when healthy, as he tallied 34 total tackles and a single sack across 10 games before he went down for the remainder of the year with a torn pectoral. Per the Houston Chronicle, he underwent surgery to repair that issue in early December.

Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk explained the Texans terminated a qualifying offer made to Hall on April 7. That tender was worth $2.183 million.

While much remains unknown about Hall's current legal setback, a player in his situation could face some type of league suspension. That reality might prevent a team from taking a flier on him ahead of training-camp sessions that open next month.
