Dak Prescott not throwing, out for Hall of Fame Game

It was always likely that Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott was going to sit out Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he continues his recovery from the compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle that he suffered last October. That was before he endured a shoulder strain last week that originally was supposed to sideline him only for two to three days. 

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, though, Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that Prescott will not throw during Tuesday's practice. McCarthy also confirmed his starting QB won't take the field on Thursday as Dallas embraces a "more conservative" approach to handling Prescott's shoulder setback.

Prescott previously said he wants to play in some preseason games considering he hasn't faced a live defense in nearly a year, and McCarthy had planned on giving the 28-year-old snaps in exhibition contests later this month. Dallas faces the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 13, and Prescott's availability for that matchup likely won't be disclosed until some time next week after the club can further evaluate his shoulder to ensure the strain won't become a problem that lingers through September.
