Red Sox pitcher Martin Perez tests positive for COVID-19

Back on Friday, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that infielder Enrique Hernandez and second baseman Christian Arroyo would "be out for an extended period" after testing positive for COVID-19.

Ahead of Monday's game at the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston confirmed that left-handed pitcher Martin Perez also tested positive for the coronavirus. The Red Sox conducted necessary contact tracing and virus testing before Monday's contest.

Perez is 7-8 with a 4.88 ERA across 22 starts and 31 total appearances this season.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Cora said Monday that Hernandez and Arroyo were feeling OK after testing positive.

Additionally, the Red Sox acquired right-hander Brad Peacock from the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations on Monday. Peacock could be called upon to start or appear in Tuesday's matchup at Tampa Bay.

Boston began Monday at 75-57 and holding an American League wild-card playoff berth.
