Browns place WR Jarvis Landry on injured reserve with MCL sprain

It was initially feared that Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Jarvis Landry suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday's home win over the Houston Texans.

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Browns placed Landry on injured reserve Tuesday. Per rules for the 2021 NFL season, Landry must miss a minimum of three games while on IR, meaning he will sit out for matchups versus the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers.

As Jake Trotter explained for ESPN, Landry went down with the knee injury on the opening drive of Sunday's game against Houston and did not return to the field. Thus far this season, he has six receptions for 80 yards. It's unclear if he'll be good to go after the mandated three-game absence.

It was previously reported that Cleveland receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could make his season debut in this coming Sunday's home game against Chicago. Beckham hasn't played since he suffered a torn ACL against the Cincinnati Bengals last October.

Rashard Higgins replaced Landry against Houston and could see additional targets over at least the next three weeks.

Chicago defeated Cincinnati on Sunday to improve to 1-1 on the year.
