Baker Mayfield responds to being booed, throws jab at fans

The Cleveland Browns improved to 6-5 Sunday via an ugly 13-10 victory over the winless Detriot Lions that occurred on a wet, windy, and cold November afternoon in Northeast Ohio, but the antics of quarterback Baker Mayfield following the contest are all many have discussed after the fact.

As insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com noted, Mayfield heard boos after he threw an interception in the fourth quarter, his second pick of the day. He exited the field following the final whistle without celebrating the win with teammates and subsequently declined to speak with media members for the first time as a pro.

Mayfield participated in Monday's press events and, per Cabot, explained he didn't field questions Sunday afternoon because he felt frustrated he "played like s---" during the win. Cleveland's QB1 was also asked about the jeers delivered by unhappy supporters when Detroit remained within reach of notching an upset that could've sunk the Browns' playoff hopes.

"Those are probably the same fans that won’t be quiet while we’re on offense and trying to operate, so don’t really care," Mayfield responded.

Mayfield completed 15-of-29 passes for 176 yards with a short touchdown pass to running back Nick Chubb and the two interceptions while battling through a serious injury to his non-throwing shoulder and also recent foot and knee issues. He seemed to aggravate the lower-body issues during Sunday's contest. Nevertheless, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Mayfield is beginning the week atop the depth chart heading into Sunday's prime-time divisional matchup at the 7-3 Baltimore Ravens.
