Oklahoma State hands No. 1 Baylor its second loss of the week

It’s safe to say Baylor won’t still be ranked No. 1 in the country on Monday.

The top-ranked Bears dropped their second game in a row on Saturday, losing to unranked Oklahoma State 61-54 at home. Baylor lost to No. 19 Texas Tech earlier in the week.

It marks the first two losses of the year for the Bears, who held the top spot in the nation for the last five weeks. Last year’s national champions are now 3-2 since beginning Big 12 play.

It’s the second upset of a ranked opponent of conference play for the Cowboys, as they knocked off No. 14 Texas at home on Jan. 8. They sit at 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12.

Baylor nearly pulled off a miraculous comeback, as Oklahoma State led by as much as 17 in the second half. The Bears got it down to a one-point game in the final minute, but the Cowboys were able to hang on thanks in part to transfer guard Bryce Thompson, who scored six points in the final 24 seconds capped by an exclamation point dunk in the final seconds.

Thompson finished with a career-high 19 points, the only Oklahoma State player in double figures. Bryce Williams had nine points, four rebounds and six assists.

For Baylor, senior Matthew Mayer finished with 16 points and five rebounds. LJ Cryer added 18 points off the bench.
