Baker Mayfield may have lost the faith of the Cleveland Browns organization, but he seemingly still has some support from the locker room.
An anonymous Browns player told Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network that Mayfield was a “true warrior” and had nothing but praise for the quarterback. However, the player also admitted that the NFL was a cutthroat league, particularly at the quarterback position.
Just spoke to one of Deshaun Watson's new #Browns teammates. Went out of his way to call Baker Mayfield a "true warrior and fierce competitor" and talked about how cutthroat the scrutiny at QB can be. That said, he said: "Sometimes you're a Matthew Stafford away from a Lombardi."

This may well sum up Cleveland’s thinking. There does not seem to be much doubt about Mayfield’s toughness. However, the Browns saw an opportunity to upgrade and did not hesitate to take it.
One team already appears to be stepping up and showing some interest in Mayfield, and that interest is likely mutual. They would be getting a very motivated quarterback, in all likelihood.
