Former Bears OL advocates for team to sign QB comparable to Justin Fields

While Justin Fields’ injury designation is day-to-day, former Chicago Bears All-Pro offensive lineman Olin Kreutz believes there’s a young quarterback with a similar skill set the team should acquire in the short term.

Brown signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in May. He led the Pac-12 with 2,989 yards passing with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2021 while rushing for another 658 yards and nine touchdowns.

A practice squad addition during the final roster cutdown ahead of the regular season, Brown had an impressive run during the preseason, completing 35 of 47 passes (74.4 completion percentage) for 464 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Brown has more experience running the kind of uptempo offense that Chicago runs with Fields, and he offers something Bears backup QB Trevor Siemian doesn’t — mobility.

Chicago’s opponent on Sunday, the New York Jets, are tied for the fourth-most sacks in the NFL (32). Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has the second-most sacks among interior defensive linemen (8), and he’s tied for the 10th-most sacks overall. New York also has 188 total QB pressures, 104 QB hurries and 45 QB hits this season.
