Last offseason, the New York Knicks made a pair of big moves to increase their chances of competing for an NBA title in 2024-25. While these additions have paid dividends, another key factor has led to their success in the postseason.
In round one, the Knicks escaped a hard-fought battle with the Detroit Pistons in six games. Upon advancing to the second round, they've taken a commanding 2-0 series lead over the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics thanks to two massive comebacks.
Numerous factors can explain why the Knicks keep winning games, but one stands out: their repeated ability to come up big down the stretch. Through the early stages of the second round, two metrics prove that New York has been the most clutch team in the playoffs by far.
Jalen Brunson won the NBA's Clutch Player of the Year award during the regular season. In the postseason, he's shown why the league made the right decision by voting for him. Brunson has already delivered multiple big moments, most notably his clutch three over Ausar Thompson to put away the Pistons for good.
This postseason, Brunson has the most clutch points of any player with 41. The player with the next closest just so happens to be his new All-Star running mate, Karl-Anthony Towns.

This duo leads the charge in the game's guts, but they are far from the only ones coming up big when it matters. Across their first eight playoff games, the Knicks have put up the most fourth-quarter points by any team these playoffs. Most recently, New York outscored the Celtics 30-17 on Wednesday to complete their second-straight 20-point comeback.
Knicks have scored 226 points in 4th quarters this postseason.

Based on their propensity to perform late in games, the Knicks have become an extremely tough team to beat. Guys like Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges bring intensity on the defensive end. Meanwhile, Brunson and Towns have proven to be reliable when needed the most.
If the Knicks can keep this up, they could punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
