Hall of Famer sends message about Jerry Jones over CBA violations with Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said that there is no room for agent David Mulugheta to negotiate on Micah Parsons' behalf for a new deal.

Jones wants to keep the number of years, total money and guarantees that he agreed to already with Parsons, but without Mulugheta present.

The collective bargaining agreement forbids front offices from negotiating with players who have representation.

On Monday, Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis sent a message about Jones disregarding the CBA, calling his actions a humiliation.

"Now Jerry Jones feels comfortable publicly humiliating our union," Revis posted on X. "I don't know if filing a grievance is necessarily the right battle at this moment, since the fine to him under the CBA amounts to pennies. But doing nothing is not an option. At the very least, the NFLPA should be saying it does not condone what Jerry is doing, that all options are on the table, and reminding players that if ownership ever tries to deal with them directly while represented, they should contact their agent and the union immediately."

Revis' message comes at a time when he is interested in becoming the next NFLPA executive director, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Revis argued that doing nothing about Jones' alleged disregard for the CBA allows owners to take advantage of players, something by definition the union cannot stand for.

"The bigger issue is respect," Revis wrote. "Jerry's actions show that owners have no problem taking advantage of us, and when our union fails to respond, it sends the message that they'll be able to do the same in the next CBA negotiations if the current leadership remains in place."

The NFLPA needs to stand up for its players. Even fining Jones for pennies shows an effort to hold league owners accountable for violating the CBA, if indeed that is what Jones is doing.

It's a small step for players to gain more power. And maybe if Revis becomes the executive director, he can help players agitate for harsher punishment if owners violate rules for the next CBA.
