The Kansas State Wildcats barely got to see running back Dylan Edwards play in their Week 0 matchup with No. 22 Iowa State from Dublin, Ireland.
In fact, Edwards, a junior from Derby, Kansas, touched the ball only once in the 24-21 loss. It was in the first quarter with him back for a punt return. That was a punt he ended up muffing for a turnover.
Edwards left the game with his left ankle wrapped, surrounded by disappointment. On Monday, though, head coach Chris Klieman relayed a positive update.
Klieman still doesn't know Edwards' status for Kansas State's Week 1 game against North Dakota, but it does sound as if the running back escaped a major injury.
I know the X-ray came back negative, so that was a positive thing," Klieman said in a news conference (h/t On3). "But we won’t know much because we don’t practice until Tuesday. So the treatments don’t even start until this afternoon and we were gonna do nothing with the kids this morning. So they don’t even have treatments until this afternoon with us not practicing until tomorrow. I think we’ll probably have a better idea maybe on Wednesday.”
With Edwards out for 99% of the game, K-State turned to sophomore Joe Jackson to carry the load. He rushed 12 times for 51 yards, though it was quarterback Avery Johnson who was the only Wildcat to find the end zone as a rusher.
Edwards started his college career at Colorado under Deion Sanders before transferring to Kansas State last season. He rushed 74 times for 546 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 while also adding 133 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
