2025 Seattle Seahawks projected win total, prediction

For the second year in a row, the Seattle Seahawks are undergoing some major changes. A year ago, it was replacing long-time head coach Pete Carroll with first-year head coach Mike Macdonald. This year, it is major changes to the offense that will see quarterback Geno Smith and wide receiver DK Metcalf get replaced by Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp.

Here is a look at what could be ahead for them during the 2025 season as they attempt to compete in the NFC West.

Projected win total: 8.5 (BetMGM)

Outlook: The Seahawks are taking a big gamble this season by shifting their quarterback situation so dramatically. After trading away Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick, they made a huge investment in the quarterback position by signing Sam Darnold in free agency and drafting Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

In the short term, Darnold is a complete wild card.

The first part of his career was a major bust with the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers, but he put everything together with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024 and had by far the best season of his career. It was the perfect storm of Darnold getting another opportunity to start, a great system and an outstanding supporting cast of pass-catchers around him. It helped the Vikings win 14 games, but he faded down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Do the Seahawks have the type of offensive system that can help him excel?

Do they have a wide receiver who can compare to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison?

Can the offensive line protect him?

Those are big questions, and the answers may not be kind to Darnold or the Seahawks offense.

The Seahawks have an emerging young star at wide receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but parted ways with Metcalf and Tyler Lockett this offseason in favor of Kupp.

At his peak, Kupp was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, but age and injuries have dramatically slowed him down in recent years.

Defensively, the Seahawks took a big step forward in 2024 under Macdonald and made a couple of significant additions to that unit this offseason.

Free agent signing DeMarcus Lawrence will bring some more depth to the defensive line and a pass-rush that was 10th in the NFL in sacks, while second-round pick Nick Emmanwori brings some more athleticism and big-play potential to the secondary.

The biggest game-changer on the defense, however, remains third-year cornerback Devon Witherspoon. While his play did not result in a lot of turnovers in 2024, he is one of the best cover cornerbacks in the NFL and an emerging star at the position.

Our take: It's basically a lot of "ifs" for the Seahawks, and they mostly revolve around whether or not Darnold's 2024 performance was a real improvement or simply a mirage. If he can duplicate what he did as a member of the Vikings, Seattle might have a chance to take a big step forward. But if they get the pre-2024 version of Darnold, this season could rapidly get away from the Seahawks.

Predicted win total: 8
