Lance Guidry already poached by Miami
Miami reportedly has hired Lance Guidry as its new DC. Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Lance Guidry was at Tulane for less than a month before being poached by Miami

It's being reported that Lance Guidry, who was hired to be the defensive coordinator at Tulane in mid-January, is already jumping ship and taking a new job. He's been tabbed to run the defense for a program with another weather/ocean-related mascot.

ESPN's Pete Thamel is reporting that Guidry will be the next defensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes. Miami just lost Kevin Steele to the defensive coordinator job at Alabama. The Hurricanes moved quickly to replace Steele with Guidry — who has been slowly but surely rising up the college football coaching ranks over the past few years.

Guidry, 51, graduated from McNeese State and spent much of his career honing his coaching chops with the Cowboys. He was a graduate assistant there in 1994, had a brief stint as a high school head coach and then went back to McNeese State for several different stints (2000-2003, 2008 and 2013-2018). He was the interim head coach for Miami (OH) in 2010, interim head coach at Western Kentucky in 2012, the defensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana in 2019 and he spent the 2022 season at Marshall as defensive coordinator.

His Thundering Herd defense was ranked first in third-down defense, second in stop rate and third in passing defense efficiency and yards per play among all FBS teams in 2022. Tulane had hired him to replace former defensive coordinator Chris Hampton, who became co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Oregon.

Before Guidry could even call a snap for the Green Wave — heck, before he could even watch spring football — he's off to south Florida.

Defensive coordinator at Miami is without a doubt the most significant post of Guidry's career, but he does have the requisite experience as both a defensive coordinator and interim coach.
