The MLB season is still young. Heck, it's barely a month old.
It's probably felt as long as two hot summers in a row for Atlanta Braves ace Max Fried, though, who was just placed on the injured list for the second time this season.
Fried missed two weeks in April because of a hamstring injury he suffered on Opening Day. He's now being placed on the 15-day IL with a strained left forearm.
If there's any good news for Atlanta, which there hasn't been much of injury-wise this year, it's that the club is considering the 15-day IL stint retroactive to May 6, which is the day after the pitcher's most recent start.
In that game, Fried gave up five earned runs to the Baltimore Orioles and committed two throwing errors, but it was not indicated at the time that his poor performance had anything to do with the injury.
Fried is one of two Atlanta starters on the IL right now. Righty Kyle Wright is currently out with shoulder soreness.
Fried is 2-1 this season in five starts with a 2.08 ERA. He was 14-7 with a 2.48 ERA last season and was a National League Cy Young runner-up, as well as an All-Star in 2022.
