Is LeBron James getting his own 'Last Dance' documentary?

According to Los Angeles Lakers radio broadcaster John Ireland, LeBron James could be getting his own 'Last Dance'-style docuseries.

A guest on the Awful Announcing Podcast this week, Ireland confirmed that Andy Thompson, who worked on ESPN's acclaimed series chronicling Michael Jordan's final NBA title run, has hung around the Lakers a lot this season, "stockpiling" footage in preparation to tell James' story.

"If we go on a magical run to the title, Andy, who was the driving force behind The Last Dance, most of the stuff you saw in those 10 episodes was shot by Andy Thompson," Ireland said. "And Andy's a smart guy, he's already working on, potentially, a story about the end of LeBron's run like he had one for the end of Jordan's run."

It is hard to imagine James ever walking away from the game. Even at 38 years old, James has been a standout in this spring's NBA playoffs, leading the Lakers on a deep run. James has also talked extensively about one day playing in the NBA side-by-side with his son, Bronny James -- meaning he would likely have to hang around a few seasons more.

There is no telling what a 10-part series covering James' career might look like and the footage may never see the light of day. However, if this is the beginning of the end of James, who better to tell his story than Thompson, whose already enthralled hoops fans once?

Released in 2020, 'The Last Dance' became ESPN's most-watched documentary ever, with nine of the 10 episodes averaging 5.6 million viewers.

One would be hard-pressed to find a more dynamic player to showcase than James, whose story is bound to draw plenty of eyes considering the various opinions on the "King."
