Al Michaels warns Jets about calling Black Friday game at Meadowlands

Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels is one of many pleased with this year's Thursday Night Football schedule. However, Michaels did share a word of warning about calling this year's Black Friday tilt between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets at the Meadowlands.

Speaking with Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated, Michaels reminisced about the last time he called a game in New York around Thanksgiving, where an unfortunate incident unfolded for the Jets.

"Last time I did a Thanksgiving game in the Meadowlands, butt fumble!" Michaels said. "Look out ahead ..."

For those somehow unfamiliar, Michaels is referencing a notorious gaffe by former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. During a Thanksgiving blowout loss to the New England Patriots in 2012, Sanchez ran into the backside of teammate Brandon Moore, causing a fumble, which the Patriots recovered for a touchdown.

The unfortunate incident followed Sanchez throughout his career. Hopefully, Aaron Rodgers and the Jets avoid any harmful juju that may accompany Michaels in his return on Black Friday.

Jokes aside, Michaels is thrilled with this year's Thursday night lineup, which is a positive change for the longtime announcer, who was highly critical of last year's Thursday night matchups.

"I was raring to go the minute I saw the whole slate," Michaels said. "Already thinking of storylines for each game, of which there are no shortage."

All 14 postseason teams from 2022 are on this year's docket. The Thursday Night Football schedule kicks off with the NFL season opener on Thursday, Sept. 7, when the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs host the emerging Detroit Lions.
